Premium rate SMS enables you to bill a mobile phone user for buying any kind of content. There are 2 types of Premium rate SMS billing:
1. Mobile Originated Billing works on the basis that the customer actually pays to send an SMS message. This is normally used for a one off payment for a product such as an individual ringtone.
2. Mobile Terminated Billing works on the basis that the customer pays to receive an SMS message, having signed up to a subscription service such as ringtones or a text alert of some form. Clearly this generates more revenue for the provider as the user is paying for a continual subscription based service rather than making a one off payment.
